Hodges University announced today the names of the guest speakers for its upcoming English as a Second Language (ESL) graduation ceremonies. At the Naples campus, Dr. Edmundo Muniz will be the featured speaker on Tuesday, December 15 at 10am. The event will take place in the Joe Donahue Community Room at Hodges, located at 2655 Northbrooke Drive.
Dr. Muniz is President and Chief Executive Officer of Tigris Pharmaceuticals, a development stage biopharmaceutical company devoted to finding breakthrough therapies for cancer patients. Dr. Muniz serves on the Foundation Board of Hodges University and is a board member of the Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce.
At the Hodges Ft. Myers campus, Lee County Commissioner Tammy Hall (District 4) will be the featured speaker at the ESL graduation ceremony on Wednesday, December 16 at 1pm. The event will take place in the Community Room at the Ft. Myers campus, located at 4501 Colonial Blvd. and Winkler.
Commissioner Hall was elected to the Board of Commissioners in November, 2004. In 2005, she served as Chairwoman to the Board of County Commissioners, becoming the first woman to chair the board in its 119 year history.
According to Leisha Klentzeris, Director of the ESL program at Hodges, the ESL graduation is an emotional event. “Our ESL students work very hard and are dedicated to learning the English language, helping them achieve a variety of personal goals,” said Klentzeris. “We are honored to have two distinguished speakers offer words of encouragement to the students.”
Students currently enrolled in the program hail from over 20 different countries, and often use the ESL program to matriculate into other classes at Hodges. For this term, over 250 students will graduate from the intensive program.
