Two graduates from Manatee Technical Institute are the recipients of the first ever MTI Scholarships from Hodges University. Jason Hagelberg of Bradenton and Sheryl Sewer of Palmetto will each be awarded a scholarship toward an Associate degree from Hodges University. The two will be part of graduation ceremonies from MTI this evening. The award is a 100% tuition scholarship minus available grants for an associate degree program offered at Hodges University.
According to her instructors, Sewer is a very motivated student, very determined to succeed. Sewer plans to continue studying the sciences, as she eventually hopes to work in the field of dentistry as a dental assistant. According to Sewer, she has been interested in dentistry since an early age. “I always liked going to the dentist as a child,” she said. “I grew up in a medical family, so I knew there were lots of medical careers that I could choose from. I feel dental assisting is the career for me.”
Jason Hagelberg was the first place winner in the 2008 Florida SkillsUSA state and regional contests in the area of Web Design, and is preparing for the National SkillsUSA competition. Jason continues to develop websites for MTI programs and volunteers in fundraising projects for Nation Way and MTI programs. During his time at MTI he has become a Certified Internet Webmaster.
This is the first time that Hodges University will award the scholarship to MTI students. According to Dr. Ron Bowman, Vice President of Student Development and Dean of Students for the University, Hodges is proud to be part of the Manatee community. “There are so many success stories that are taking place at MTI, and we are proud that we can offer additional programs to its students seeking to further their educational goals,” he said.
Limited scholarships are available to all Manatee Community College and Manatee Technical Institute graduates. For information call (888) 609-3874, (941) 809-5505 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
