Florida House Representative Matt Hudson visits Hodges

Hodges University students, faculty and staff were the recipients of a candid, face-to-face political conversation last Thursday evening in the Naples campus.

The university was visited by FL House Representative, Matt Hudson (R 101). The event which was originally scheduled for thirty to forty-five minutes lasted for two hours. The representative discussed a wide range of topics, prospects and challenges facing state and local government. Rep. Hudson challenged students to participate by educating them on how to get involved in the political process.

The occasion provided a win-win situation to the representative and to those who attended in person and online. It benefited the representative by providing an avenue for him to learn directly about what students felt was most important issue from his constituency and, it benefited the students from the knowledge they gained about the legislative process and the empowerment they felt by having such knowledge.

One student who participated online simply stated, “Thanks, Dr. Jackreece. I found the live chat to be interesting and a lively "change" from the normal online environment. I did learn a few things today and also am aware of the topics which a local politician is currently focusing on: Homeland Security, public transportation, and the environment.”

Thanks for all those who participated.
