Hodges University announces summer 2012 scholarship recipients

Hodges University is proud to announce the recipients of several private scholarships for the summer 2012 semester. The private scholarships of Hodges University are available through the generous donations of benefactors and foundations who wish to assist students to reach their academic goals by offering financial assistance in the form of scholarships.

Lavern N. Gaynor Scholarship: Named after the University’s 1997 Humanitarian of the Year, this scholarship provides tuition assistance to individuals pursuing the benefits of higher education. Scholarships were awarded to Entela Kreka, Alexandra Perez, Elizabeth Phillips, Ashley Pugh and Cortney Roche.

Neno J. Spagna Scholarship: This scholarship, established in 1993, provides financial assistance to worthy students who want to use their knowledge and abilities to improve the lives of others through the betterment of the community. The latest recipients of this scholarship include Marina Belen Brisco, Marina Guzman, Gerald Monsanto and Ashley Polk.

The John and Joanne Fisher Grant Fund, a scholarship named after Hodges University Trustee and alum John Fisher and his wife, is being awarded to Edgardo Suarez.

Richard and Florence Nogaj Immokalee Encouragement Award: This scholarship, named after the donors of the Hodges University – Immokalee learning site building, is awarded to Immokalee area residents pursuing a degree at Hodges University. The summer 2012 recipients of the Nogaj Scholarship is Silvestra M. Castillo.

The Jerry L. and Barbara J. Burris Foundation Scholarship: This award, named after Jerry and Barbara Burris, is designed to provide financial support to a single parent, male or female. This term, the scholarship is being presented to Velora Bishop.

Friends of the University: This scholarship is funded by donations from private donors, institutional fund raising and other sources. The summer 2012 recipients are Richard S. Allen, Constantin Apostol, Juan Baez, Christopher Billups, Pamela Blackburn, Kory Bozovsky, Tamra Brown, Gisela Chamberlin, Wendy Colicchia, Hercan Henriquez Cruz, Jason S. Downs, Monya Engle, Silvana Estrada, Lindsay Gaide, Kade Kaba, Bernadette Madden, Susan Marquez, Julio Ortiz, Claudia Ramos, Kristin Richey, Tammy D. Rose, Stephani Sanabria, Kenneth Squires, Jordan Stewart, Kevin Taylor, Jeffrey Tosti, Laura Turushina, Demetrice Williams and Vanessa Wilson.

Francis and Sam Bailey Scholarship: Named after the University’s 2011 Luminaries of the Year, recipients for the summer semester include Sarah Baldwin, Sean Michael Betrand, Huong Thi My Bui, Lily McLane Dalton, Shawn Detrick, Brian Scott McGraw, Debra Purcaro, Sherrell Rolle, Megan Sanford and Greta Taylor.

Dolph and Sharon Von Arx Scholarship: Named after the University’s 2011 Humanitarians of the Year, recipients for the summer semester include Shkelqim Bylyku, Katherine Caprirolo, Sergio Fitzgerald, Kerry Hayes, Hans Joseph, Scott Kehl, Patrick Paul and Stephanie Sankavic.

Michael and Susan London Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to a student enrolled in the MBA program in the Johnson School of Business at Hodges. The recipient for the summer 2012 term is Nataliya Krupa. 

The Schoen Family Scholarship is awarded to a veteran student attending undergraduate studies. The scholarship was awarded to U.S. Marine William Figlesthaler. 

Other scholarship winners include Joel E. Canova, Jr. (Hodges Veterans Scholarship), Laura Susan Nash (Upper Division Scholarship), Belinda Zivich (Douglas Devaux, Sr. Scholarship), Cynthia Block (QUEST Foundation).
