The Academic Committee of Hodges University has named Lydia L. Babin the student of the month for July. Lydia is studying for an Associate of Science in Business degree and hopes to graduate next summer.
Lydia has faced her share of life challenges. She lost her husband during his service in the war in Iraq. As a single mother, she has dedicated her life to raising her children and getting her degree. “I knew that it was not going to be easy and that I would have to work three times harder than a regular student, but I am here and I am doing it,” she said. “I believe that people can accomplish their dreams if they really want to, and excuses are not an option!”
Lydia enjoys reading, going to the beach, and spending time with her children, who are her inspiration to strive for more.
Lydia’s favorite classes so far have been Principles of Accounting with Professor Marchetti and Introduction to Business with Professor Karastamatis.
“Professor Marchetti has made accounting seem so much easier than the way it actually is in the textbook,” she says. “Professor Karastamatis has put his life experiences from business in his classwork, and I enjoy the way he teaches his class. I have learned so much from him.
“I am proud to say that I have picked one of the best schools to attend, and I thank everyone at Hodges University who has given me the support and help I have needed along the way; without you, I would not have made it this far.”
Her career goal is to continue on to earn both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Business and eventually to own her own business.
As the student of the month, Lydia will receive a formal letter with the nomination comments for her portfolio and files, a certificate and a $100 tuition credit.
