MANGROVE MADNESS (Fishing Tournament Benefits IC)
Florida anglers can land their share of more than $15,000 in cash and prizes during the inaugural debut of Mangrove Madness, a new IGFA/Rolex Inshore Qualifying Championship Event Tournament scheduled for August 11-12, 2006. Beyond the lure of snook, redfish, snapper and trout in the catch/release formatted event, Tournament Director Ron Riley says tournament winners receive automatic entry in the Spring 2007 IGFA/Rolex Championship Tournament (at Islamorada in the Florida Keys) where one of the inshore fishing world’s most wonderful whoppers of awards in cash and prizes await.
The field for Mangrove Madness, which includes a youth and lady’s division, will be limited to 100 teams and entries will be handled on a first come/first serve basis.
The tournament additionally serves to benefit students of International College, a 16-year old, fully accredited, not-for-profit College with campuses in Naples and Fort Myers as well as learning sites throughout the state.
The College’s President of 15 years, Dr. Terry McMahan, was recently recognized with an international award as Education Leader of the Year, but among Florida’s angler community, he is known as a long-time fishing enthusiast and Founder of the Naples Fishing Club. He says the Mangrove Madness tournament is expected to help extend International College’s message of how it is Growing Minds and Transforming Lives among sportsmen and other school supporters in a family-friendly venue that differs from some of the college’s more traditional, yet popular, support initiatives which include two annual golf outings.
Mangrove Madness Organizers will host a Captain’s Party and Rules Meeting on the Friday evening of August 11, complemented by dinner and an open bar.
A Saturday-evening Awards Banquet will be held in Parrot Key Caribbean Grill at Salty Sam’s Marina near Fort Myers Beach. All anglers will receive a great array of tournament gear - from customized, long sleeve T-shirts and fishing shirts to embroidered hats and wet/dry boat storage bags and other novelties.
