International College Invites Public To "Test Drive" A Class
A new program at International College will allow area residents to take the fear out of going to college by allowing them to sit in on a real college class and take it for a test drive.
The “Test Drive A Class” program will run from August 12-16 at both the Fort Myers and Naples campuses. Seating is limited and reservations are required.
Morning and evening sessions will be available to “test drive.” Each session will last one hour; there will be 20 classes offered in Naples and 17 classes offered in Fort Myers. Morning classes will be held at 8:30 a.m., and evening classes will be held at 6:00 p.m. The one- hour session is free.
International College is offering classes in Criminology, Marriage and Family, Computer Hardware and Networking, Web Design, Introduction to Law, Multinational Business, Medical Assisting Office Administrative Procedures and other offerings.
The concept behind this program is to take the fear out of going back to school, said Rita Lampus, Director of Admissions at International College in Naples. This new program gives prospective students the opportunity to sit inside the classroom and get a feel for the college environment and the professors they will be learning from.
Lampus, the creative mind behind this endeavor, hopes people take advantage of the opportunity. The hope is that participants will see how easy it is to go back to school, Lampus added.
“We’ve done traditional open houses in the past that have been successful, but everyone does open houses. I wanted to give the general public an opportunity to see what we’re really about,” Lampus said. “I hope they see International College as an adult atmosphere. The classes are small, the professors are dynamic, and they’re sitting in the classroom with people just like them.”
International College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate, bachelor’s and master’s degrees among 13 fields of study in management, business, legal studies, accounting, healthcare, computer information technology and criminal justice. Class schedules, academic programs and delivery methods, including accelerated programs and distance learning, are designed for the working adult.
