International College Names 2002 Publications Award Recipient
North and 19 other students were honored during the 5th Annual Student Recognition Banquet, held on February 9, at the Three Oaks University Center in Estero. The banquet celebrates the students’ outstanding accomplishments. The faculty and administration of International College, with input from various clubs and organizations, selected the students.
North, 38, recently completed her bachelor of science in Computer Information Technology at International College with a 3.89 GPA. She was named to the dean’s list five times since enrolling during the Winter 2001 term.
In addition to balancing daily school responsibilities, family, and work commitments, North was always available to other students as a tutor at the International College Academic Achievement Services (AAS) and was a contributor to The Sextant, the College’s literary publication.
According to Scott Kemp, Associate Professor of English and Sextant Faculty Editor, North devised a more sophisticated layout for The Sextant, managed production of The Sextant, oversaw daily student activity at AAS, and created a fully functional database for AAS with the ability to track student requests and progress.
“That database is a key component of our program,” Kemp said. “Having worked closely with Lorraine North for a year and having seen her excellent work, she deserves high praise and is worthy of the IC Publications Award.”
